HELP

Simple search.

If you enter a search term or its element in the simple search box, you will browse the website by a given category of digitised and published photographs from the Filmoteka Narodowa’s collection. Our search engine is not case-sensitive, but you should remember to use Polish diacritics.

You should choose one of four categories (title, person, director, keywords); after you enter 3 initial characters, you will see an index of suggestions that you can use to search by one selected criterion; however, if you enter e.g. the “małe” fragment for the “title” category and press the “search” button, the system will show search results for the film “Małe dramaty” (segregated by two short stories) and the film “Małe smutki” (using the index, you can select results for each title separately). The same principle is valid for terms related to the categories of “person” and “director” (see e.g. person - Grabowski).
Confirm each selection with the “search” button or the “enter” key.

Example 1

If you select the category “person” (in the photo), enter “Bareja” in the search box, and press “search” or “enter”, you will be presented search results including the name “Bareja” and different first names (to the left); thumbnails will refer to all people named “Bareja”. If you select one (or more) person(s) and press the “next” button, your search results will include thumbnails featuring the person (people) selected.

Example 2

If you select the category “title”, enter “Trędowata” (or its fragment) in the search box, and press “search” or “enter”, you will be presented search results including the title “Trędowata” and various release dates (to the left); thumbnails will refer to all films entitled “Trędowata” and, in order to make a distinction between them, release dates (in square brackets) will follow the title. If you select one (or two) version(s) and press the “next” button, your search results will include thumbnails from one (or two) version(s) selected.

Search result filters

Search results are presented in the form of thumbnails that may be sorted alphabetically or chronologically in the ascending or descending order. If you get a large number of thumbnails corresponding to preliminary search criteria, it may be useful to apply filters available to the left of thumbnails presented; you can narrow search results by the following categories: films and related topics, photo type (e.g. photos for films, studio photographs), colour or character of photos (e.g. group photo, long view, portrait).

Result presentation and buttons

Clicking a thumbnail or its name below (title, name), you can browse all photographs in full size; you can navigate using the following buttons: *previous*, *next*, and *back* (to thumbnails).
