Wiktor Nitkiewicz
Assistant cameraman and still photographer. Born and bred in Wrocław, he was employed by the local Studio there in 1973 and, for the first few years, he worked in the laboratory and the photographic technology department. From 1977, however, he gained experience working on film sets, where he became familiar with the equipment and how to use it. Soon, one of the production managers came up to him and offered him work in the film crew.
Nitkiewicz debuted as an assistant DoP in the film "...gdziekolwiek jesteś panie prezydencie..." by Trzos-Rastawiecki. In the early 1980s, he started to take stills, which was then a common activity for someone from the camera operator department. He was able to get on well with the actors and his photographs were not a chore for them, especially since he managed to take some stills while shooting was going on, provided that the working of the film camera was loud enough to drown out his photo camera's shutter sound.
He worked on medium-format Zenit and Kiev cameras and then finally on twin lens reflex Rolleiflex. He took stills until the mid-1990s, when this function was taken over by specially employed photographers from outside the film crews.
