Zamykający trylogię Trzy kolory film Czerwony całkiem dosłownie w finale łączy wątki z trzech filmów w pamiętnej scenie spotkania głównych bohaterów wszystkich tych obrazów. Opowiada historię niezwykłej przyjacielskiej, albo braterskiej, relacji starego zgorzkniałego sędziego z młodą, piękną i dobrą kobietą. Rozgrywająca się w Genewie historia w sposób przedziwny splata się z dziejami innej pary, młodego prawnika i jego ukochanej. Im dalej zagłębiamy się w opowiadanie tym większą zyskujemy pewność, że historia starego sędziego i młodego prawnika łączy się na jakimś osobnym planie. Jakby dawne dzieje jednego powielały się w historii drugiego, ale w wariancie bardziej szczęśliwym. Dochodzi do wyjątkowego zbratania losów różnych ludzi, suma złych doświadczeń jednego, przynosi lepszy obrót rzeczy u drugiego. Krzysztof Kieślowski, reżyser filmu, oraz Krzysztof Piesiewicz, współscenarzysta trylogii, nie kryli, że cała trylogia "trójkolorowa" nawiązuje do barw flagi francuskiej (film jest w głównej mierze produkcją francuską a jego koproducentem była Szwajcaria) oraz do haseł rewolucji francuskiej: wolności, równości i braterstwa. Ta deklaracja podsuwa pierwszy klucz interpretacyjny do Czerwonego, który zachęca do namysłu nad pojęciem braterstwa u kresu XX wieku; oprac. Mikołaj Jazdon | Closing the Three Colours trilogy, Red quite literally combines the plots of the three films in its memorable final scene – with the main characters of all three films meeting in one place. It tells the story of an extraordinary friendly, or fraternal, relationship between an old bitter judge with a young, beautiful, and virtuous woman. The tale unfolding in Geneva is curiously intertwined with the story of another couple, a young lawyer and his beloved. The further we delve into it, the more we can be sure that the story of the old judge and the young lawyer are connected on some separate plane. As if the olden days of one of them duplicated in the story of the other, albeit in a happier variation. What comes next is a unique bond between the fates of different people with the sum of bad experiences of one person bringing about a better turn of events for the other. Krzysztof Kieślowski, the film's director, and Krzysztof Piesiewicz, the co-writer of the trilogy, did not hide the fact that the whole 'three-colour' trilogy refers to the colours of the French flag (the film is mainly a French production, with Switzerland as its co-producer) and to the slogans of the French revolution: freedom, equality, and fraternity. This statement points us towards the first key to interpret Red, a film that encourages reflection on the concept of brotherhood at the end of the 20th century; edited by Mikołaj Jazdon
